Leslie and Luda fully understood the risks when they chose to plead not guilty and face trial. They could not bring themselves to lie or fabricate stories to gain favor, unlike the co-defendants who succumbed to the government's pressure. The government accused Leslie and Luda of participating in a high-stakes fraud scheme, despite the fact that they maintained complete transparency. All financial records, including company and personal tax returns, were readily available for the court's scrutiny, though unfortunately disregarded.

The real perpetrators were Leslie and Luda's co-defendants who engaged in separate fraudulent activities with fictitious companies to embezzle funds. Shockingly, under the federal system, those who are willing to perjure themselves or become government witnesses receive incentives such as probation or reduced sentences, as the co-defendants did.

Moreover, the government has a history of withholding evidence and unfairly punishing those who maintain their innocence and opt for trial. In Leslie and Luda's case, the court unjustly convicted Leslie while acquitting Luda, a rare occurrence in legal proceedings involving spouses. Both of them, however, steadfastly maintained their innocence throughout.
